Maybe you’ve heard about Familiar spirits a thousand times. And after hearing it time and time again, you still haven’t grasped it yet.

The good news is:

As you study today you are going to learn how to overcome the familiar spirit affecting your life.

Let’s jump right in!

Most of us know by now that we will always experience some sort of warfare. The only time warfare is over is when you die, but your life is at warfare.

The enemy will try all kinds of things to entangle you and I want to show you how they do it. 

Look:

A familiar spirit is an unclean spirit that studies you.

That’s right, a spirit that knows you!

When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Matthew 12 :43-45

Why You Need To Defeat Familiar Spirits

It is very important to overcome or destroy familiar spirits that familiarizes itself with you.

The bible says “when an unclean spirit is cast out of a man he walks about seeking rest. So what this spirit decides is “I’m going back where I came from.” 

So your body is a house for this spirit. You understand me you house the spirit. And because you are considered to be a house you can determine what comes into your house. 

You can stop anything that the enemy tries to come into your house. But one of the things you understand is that a familiar  Spirit comes and analyzes your life’s condition after it’s been evicted from you. 

When the Bible says that the spirit comes and looks and sees there’s no occupancy the place is clean, but there’s nothing to occupy the empty space.

That spirit releases tests to see if there is any occupancy and if the place is clean. But truly what it is searching for is whether there’s anything occupying the empty space.

The enemy is not afraid of a filthy place. He’s afraid of an occupied place. We as the children of God must understand when God delivers us. We must occupy the space that the enemy was evicted from.

We have to build our relationship with God to block the enemy from approaching. 

When you hear the word unclean spirit. You might think about fornication, adultery and all these things that we consider sinful. But what we must know is that the enemy is so keen, clever and very smart. 

He knew he had a place in your life. So what he does is use his own tactics to entangle or bring you back into bondage. 

But the Bible says that spirit takes seven more. It means that he is going to use seven more things to make sure he stays in that place and occupies a person’s life.

How To overcome The Your Familiar Spirit

You see many people who have been delivered and next week they are struggling with the same demons. 

What they didn’t do was get in relationship with God. They think after they are delivered they believe they can do it. That’s a lie.

Some may feel after they’ve received deliverance it’s like they just got to leave a certain way. Think about it this way, you cannot deal with spirits in the way that you think that you are above them. 

The Holy Ghost is above them! 

The more we hook ourselves with the Holy Ghost the more effective we will be at keeping away demonic spirits.  

And to do so the bible teaches us that we have to occupy. 

Dealing With the Spirit of Fear

Fear is an open door! Familiar spirits love fear.

This spirit entertains your mind and gives you an image of something going wrong or what could go wrong.

Sometimes even while you are asleep the devil will give you visions. 

Listen: 

Every dream is not from God. Don’t get the feeling that every dream is of God. The enemy uses dreams too!

We cannot entertain fear when God delivers us.

You cannot be focusing on your life where God delivered you, set you free and your mind is just telling you what you were delivered from will happen again. 

God doesn’t want you to live a life where you are being tormented. ( Every night, you spend all night praying and getting no sleep. All you are doing is weakening your body. There is a time for rest. You have to reach the place where you trust God with everything! 

You have to trust God with your children! You have to trust God in a relationship! You have to trust God with your job. 

The devil works by fear, “This is not going to work out” — This familiar spirit entertains your mind and gives you an image of something going wrong or what could go wrong. 

Sometimes while you are asleep the devil gives you visions. 

Listen: Every dream is not from God. Don’t get the feeling that every dream is God. They use dreams too!

The enemy will bring pictures to our minds because he wants us to capture and explore them. They want you to believe their evil suggestions.

If you get a dream that is contrary to what God’s Word says, disregard it and release the blood of Jesus against that dream and hold on to what the word of God says.  

If you are dreaming that you got sick with some major illness and you saw in the dream it’s going to kill you. Again release the blood. And stick to what the word of God says. 

Declare the word of God. “You shall not die but you shall live and declare the works of the Lord.” 

Say by his stripes you are healed. No weapon formed against you shall prosper.

You have to stand on the word.

The enemy uses familiar spirits to try and intrigue you, to bring temptations and plaster your mind with all kinds of images. We have to trust God! 

Listen: From the time you got saved, you belong to someone else. You’re not your own! You belong to God!

We have to reach a place where we trust God to the point that we know we belong to God. 

It doesn’t mean that you won’t experience some trials. But you have to trust God and know he sees it before it happens! 

If God allows you to go through something. He has the antidote for it. He has the way to escape. 

God can reach you in any way He pleases to reach you. You have to come to the place where you have got to trust God. 

God you have delivered me and these demons shall not enter me anymore.

One the Familiar strongholds of the enemy is fear. From the time you entertain fear you’ve opened a door. 

Fear Kills Faith! Faith Kills Fear!  I was saying to someone the other day that we always think about generational curses. 

We study more on generational curse than generational blessing. We believe that a curse will get its way on us. It’s time we stand up against curses. How do we stand up against curses? We stand up against it by blessing. 

We gotta use the word of God.

Wake up every day and declare you are the blessed of the Lord! Declare his promises over your life. Decree blessings in your life. 

Get this revelation: blessing blocks curse. The opposite of blessing is a curse.  And the opposite of curse is blessing. Why don’t we hold on generational blessing but we hold on generational curses. You are the blessed of the Lord.

Listen to me: Your words are creative. Your words can turn things around. You can turn around anything that the enemy brings your way. 

You can speak to something and change it by your own words. You can create something by your own words. Especially when you put the word with faith about what God’s word says about you. 

A Familiar Spirit was following me every time trying to entangle  me, trying to bring me back. The bible said Paul when I tried to do good, evil presents itself. There’s something familiar that always chases us, but we can block it. 

Do not be afraid to ask God for help! 

Say, “Help me Holy Ghost.” 

We need to call out to the Holy Ghost. He is right here! Jesus is in heaven seated next to our Father but the Holy Ghost is right here. 

Jesus finished the work but the Holy Ghost is the one bringing us to fulfill and manifest the work of Jesus. 

When you feel like you’re falling, don’t call your neighbor, call the Holy Ghost. “Holy Ghost help me here. I’m feeling weak in this position right now” This is how to block these familiar spirits when you feel the tugging against your soul.

Sometimes you don’t feel like you are saved. But that doesn’t mean you aren’t saved. Because your salvation is not based on feelings, but it’s based on believing what Jesus did for you.

It’s not every day you will feel holy. It’s not every day we will feel like reading our bible. But we have to PRESS.  It is not how we feel — It’s what we need to do. 

You might not feel like it but it’s what you need to do because the enemy is against you. But God has given you an ability to resist him. 

We have to learn to walk out our faith. It doesn’t mean that you are going to walk straight. You might walk with a limp. But just walk! 

It is very important to cry out to God. The Holy Ghost is here and you can cry out to him. Ask him to help you. It’s very important to cry out to God. Ask God to help you when you don’t feel like it. Ask God to help you when you feel like praising Him. When you don’t feel like worshipping. Ask Him to help you to read your Bible. When you don’t feel like getting out of bed to pray.

We shouldn’t take the holy spirit too lightly 

We take the Holy Spirit too lightly. And this is why familiar spirits come back because we think of the Holy Ghost.

Listen to me: Jesus did the work on the cross to redeem us and take us from the penalty of sin. The Holy Ghost is the one sent by Jesus sent to keep us walking upright. 

He’s not an errand boy and that is what we have to get clear. But his STRENGTH! Our HOPE.

Sometimes your physical man may not feel like it but the spirit of God is always waiting for us. 

Our problem because you’re not crying out to Him. 

Depend on the Holy Spirit For Strength. Your Strength comes from God

Say something to him. “help me”. Because when the person whom the spirit reenters because sometimes you can reach a place that you feel that you can depend on your own strength. You can depend on your own ability. And the thing that got you there you stopped. You have to realize that God is your hope.

We must not think that the Holy Spirit holds things against us. He’s not holding anything against you. He’s waiting for you to realize that he is your helper.
